Carpal tunnel syndrome can be present in one or both wrists. When
it is present in both wrists it is known as bilateral carpal tunnel
syndrome, and the pain associated with this can be relieved in a
number of ways.
Many workers that work in fields that are associated with typing at
a keyboard, or working using both hands for a prolonged period of time
begin to suffer from a condition called carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is the pinching of a nerve by the wrist
joint. Usually this is associated from prolonged exposure to a
specific unnatural positing of the the wrists such as typing at a
keyboard or holding a board by a waitress. Carpal tunnel syndrome can
effect one of the wrists or both of the wrists. When it effects both
wrists it is known as bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome.
If you experience pain in one or both of the wrists how should one
know if these are the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome is very painful. Pain that radiated up the
forearm to the elbow is the main symptom of carpal tunnel
syndrome. There is also weakness in the hands, and numbness that are
other signs of carpal tunnel syndrome. This can come in many forms and
be the dropping of items or having a hard time moving the wrists. The
pain that is associated with carpal tunnel syndrome isn't always
present. Sometimes it might be a sharp shooting pain up the arm, or
just a dull ever present pain that is in the wrist area.
Surgery can be done to relieve the pain that comes with carpal
tunnel syndrome but surgery does not guarantee any results. Many
patients who have had the surgery have to have the surgery again as
the pain comes back within a matter of moths.
Simple exercises can be done to relieve some of the pain associated
with carpal tunnel syndrome. A simple search online will show the
proper way to do these exercises. They are simple strengthening
exercises that take a matter of minutes a day.
Another way to relieve the pain is to wear a wrist brace. This
keeps the wrist in a neutral position and does not allow the wrist to
move out of place. This means that the wrist cannot be put into a
position that might be painful or cause inflammation in the wrist.
