Carpal tunnel syndrome pregnancy connection hasn't been proven but
there are many connecting favors. Pregnancy can either cause carpal
tunnel in those that don't have it or it can put the carpal tunnel
into remission.
Carpal tunnel syndrome happens to workers who work around the
computer using the keyboard or typing all day. It is an extremely
painful condition that is caused by the wrist pressing on the nerve
within the wrist. It is well known that carpal tunnel syndrome happens
to those that work in positions that require lengthy awkward
positioning of the wrists. But what about pregnancy? Does it have an
effect on the carpal tunnel? What else can happen during
pregnancy?
Carpal tunnel syndrome is very painful. It can be a slight dull
pain that is present all the time or it can be a sharp shooting pain
that isn't present all the time but comes and goes. A numbness, a
tingling sensation and weakness in the hands and wrists are also
common symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Can being pregnant effect carpal tunnel syndrome? If so how?
Carpal tunnel syndrome can sometimes develop in the later portion
of a woman's pregnancy. It is unknown why this happens as very little
is known about why carpal tunnel syndrome happens in non pregnant
women. However it is fairly common to experience pain, numbness, and
tingling sensation in one or both of the wrists with carpal tunnel
syndrome. Sometimes these symptoms go away after the pregnancy but
sometimes they do not.
Carpal tunnel syndrome pregnancy agitation also works the
reverse. Some women who experience carpal tunnel syndrome before
pregnancy experience a relief of the symptoms of carpal tunnel
syndrome while they are pregnant. Again it is unknown if this has to
do with the weight gain that happens during pregnancy or if there
really is no common factor at all.
If you are pregnant and experience sever pain in the wrist area
that radiates up to the elbow, numbness, or tingling sensations that
come and go it is best to seek medical advice. A doctor can recommend
exercises, these exercises can also be found online, that can
strengthen the wrist muscles and relieve some of the pain associated
with carpal tunnel syndrome. A doctor can also recommend if a wrist
brace is recommended and how long it should be worn for.
